Co-ed Reverse 6s

The regular season runs from January 27 to March 16. With the playoffs happening in the following 1-2 weeks.

Reverses is a fun and inclusive variation of a traditional co-ed league. It consists of 3 females and 3 males. Games will be played on a women’s height net, where females will play front row and males will play in the back row, only being able to attack behind the 3m line.

Our league is catered to players who have played at an intermediate/competitive level while keeping it fun!

General

  • All players must be at least 18 years of age in order to participate in leagues.
  • All regular season matches will be self-officiated, so please call your own fouls.
  • Teams are responsible for recording the scores after finishing each set.
  • If no scores are recorded, the game will be considered a tie and each team will only be awarded one point.
  • Teams must be ready to begin the game at their designated time. Players who come early to warm up must respect groups using the gym before them.
  • If a team is unable to have at least 5 players on the court, they will forfeit the match.
  • All schedules and results will be posted online.
  • Team captains must know and enforce league guidelines, ensure their teammates are aware of league guidelines, and ensure their roster is up-to-date before every game.
  • Spectators and their actions are the responsibility of the team and they will abide by all rules discussed herein.
  • No outside food or drinks in the gym, aside from water.

Rules

  • 1. Team Composition:
    • Reverse 6’s requires 6 people to be on the team, with 3 females and 3 males on the court at all times.
  • 2. Format:
    • Two matches will be played weekly, resulting in 14 regular season games.
    • Sets are typically played to 25 points, with a win margin of 2 points and a cap of 27 points.
    • The winner of each set will be awarded one point with a maximum of 3 points per game.
  • 3. Rotation:
    • There is no rotation. Players are required to stay in the same position they start on the court, however, there is a service rotation that must be followed.
  • 4. Hitting:
    • Men are only permitted to hit behind the 3m line.
    • If a male contacts the ball above net height and in front of the 3m line, it must be played with a bump or a strike that puts the ball in an upward trajectory.
    • Females are allowed to hit from the front court.
  • 5. Blocking:
    • Only females are allowed to block.
  • 6. Service Rules:
    • Serves must be initiated from behind the back boundary line.
    • Service rotation has to alternate between male and female. For instance, male, female, male, female…etc.
    • Males are not allowed to jump-serve.
  • 7. Ball Handling:
    • Teams have a maximum of three touches to return the ball over the net, often following the sequence of bump, set, spike.
    • Carrying or holding the ball is not permitted; it must be cleanly hit.
  • 8. Net Play:
    • Players cannot make contact with the net during play.
    • Crossing the centerline under the net is strictly prohibited.
  • 9. Antennae:
    • The ball must pass between the vertical extensions of the antennae to remain in play.
  • 10. Out of Bounds:
    • A ball that lands completely outside the boundary lines is considered out of bounds.
  • 11. Officials:
    • Matches will be self-officiated.
